Artist Statement:
I am a graduate University of South Alabama in 1972 in art educaton. After teaching twenty-eight years throughout the south, at the ripe old age of fifty four, I entered graduate school at Georgia Southern University and earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree in three dimensional design with a focus in clay figurative sculpture.
Perhaps it’s the forty year public school teacher in me, but I have always found it hard to define my work. I rarely work in series. My work runs the gamut from organic to whimsical. Influences on my work come from my love of African and Hispanic art. I love the geometry of African and the color of Hispanic art. To narrow my work to a single style would be impossible. Even narrowing my medium is an impossible task. Though clay is my primary choice, I work with cardboard, metal, dyed t-shirts, or things I find on the side of the road. I cannot resist a new idea, and finding out where it will take me.
